Fireplace Mantels

There is no question that a fireplace means warmth and coziness, calmness and relaxing ambience of our home. Sitting near a fireplace we forget about worries and problems, gather our family together, discuss news with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, at peace with the other world… It stands to reason that the fireplace should be an embellishment of the house. The tradition of hand crafted fireplace mantels came to us from eighteenth century England in combination of colors and wood species.

At present we at Ugol Woodworks integrate the principal idea of european traditions in a modern interpretation of fireplace mantel. The fireplaces made in this style are an ideal part to any living room and library as well. Ugol Woodworks new Wood Mosaic "Mosaic" Mantle Pieces  beautifully embody the idea that in design, as in travel, crossroads are some of the most interesting locations. By blending sleek minimalist shapes with traditional fine woodworking techniques, designer Constantine Fedorets has produced a line of modern heirlooms.

The face of each mantle is embellished with a unique mosaic composed  of pieces of different wood veneers, fitted perfectly together like a fine quilt. The myriad organic patterns in the natural wood grains contrast with the formal geometry of the mosaic composition to create an effect that feels simultaneously modern and antique.

The physical construction of Ugol Woodworks' new mantle pieces also marries the old and the new by bringing contemporary ecological sensitivity to traditional wood working. The veneers used to create the striking mosaic effects are all scraps that would otherwise have been discarded. In addition to saving all of its own scrap veneer, Ugol Woodworks collects cutoffs from other local woodworkers. On top of the environmental benefits, this 'upcycling' generates a wide and ever changing palate of veneer colors and patterns.
